The short version

Your selfie, your portrait and everything you write stay on your phone. To make the portrait and write the lines and replies, the app sends them to AI services for that one request. Our server never stores them. We never publish, sell or share your photos or your words, never show them to anyone, and never use them to train AI. There is no account and no sign-up.

What stays on your phone

Your selfie, the four faces you choose from, your portrait, your name, the age you picked, what was hard, your notes in Say anything and the replies, your daily lines, pinned lines, sits, shares and your notification time. They are kept in the app’s own storage on your phone. We do not receive a copy and cannot restore them for you.

Your selfie and AI portraits

To make your four faces, the app sends your selfie and the look answers you chose (age, hair, details and anything else you typed) to our server. The server passes them to an AI image model and sends the four paintings straight back to your phone.

MiniThen does not use your selfie for face recognition or to identify you, and does not build a face profile. The selfie is only an input for the painting.

AI that writes to you

Your daily lines and the replies in Say anything are written by AI, not by a person. To write them, the app sends your name, the age you picked and what was hard (if you shared it) to our server, which passes them to an AI text model. When you save a note in Say anything, the note goes the same way to get a short reply in the kid’s voice. The words come back to your phone and our server keeps no copy.

Nobody at MiniThen reads your notes or replies. If a note reads like you might be thinking of ending your life, the app does not send it to the AI and does not save it. Instead it shows you ways to reach real people.

The AI services we use

Requests go through Vercel, which hosts our server and routes each request to an AI model provider, such as Google. We only use providers that have a zero data retention agreement with Vercel: they do not store your request after answering it and do not use it to train models. They process it on our behalf and only to answer that request.

What our server keeps

To stop abuse and keep the free portrait to once per phone, the server keeps a few counts for a random install ID made by the app: how many sets of faces and replies were used, and how many requests were made today. No photos, no words, no names. Logs record only which request ran and whether it worked.

Anonymous stats (optional)

In Settings, Anonymous stats is on by default. While it is on, the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, our analytics provider, hosted in the EU. For example: which screens you open, which setup step you reached, the hair and age options you picked, that you sat, said or shared, whether you saw the plans or bought one, and crash reports.

Each event carries the time, your device model, system version, app version and language. We never send your photos, your name, what was hard, your notes, the replies or anything else you type. Location lookup is off. Turn the switch off anytime and nothing new is sent.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play. We never see your name, email or card. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. It receives the random install ID and your purchase status, not your photos or your words.

Notifications and widget

The daily line is a notification scheduled on your phone. The widget and Lock Screen read the line from the same phone. Neither sends anything to us.

This website

The website uses DataFast to count visits: which pages are viewed, where visitors came from, rough country and device type. It sets a first-party cookie to tell a new visit from a returning one. No ads, and the data is not sold.

Backups

Your phone may include app data, including your selfie and portrait, in your own iCloud, Google or computer backup. Those backups are under your account. We have no access to them.

Deleting your data

In the app, go to Settings and tap Delete all photos and letters. That removes your selfie, the portrait and every letter from your phone, and resets the anonymous stats ID. Deleting the app removes them too. See Delete Account.

Adults only

MiniThen is for adults, 18 and over, using a photo of their own face. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. Do not upload a photo of anyone else.

Emailing us

If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply. Ask us anytime to delete that conversation.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to how it is used. Almost everything lives only on your phone, where you control it. For anything else, contact us.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
